Position Summary

The Manager, Development Programs is a key member of a highly collaborative and diverse management team in Advancement Services. The Manager works closely with the Development leadership team to lead planning, project management, and program operations for key initiatives, targets, and functions critical for fulfilling Development's goals. They are responsible for providing strategic planning, operational and project management expertise to the Directors and Development units and oversees multiple high-level projects with complexity and a high degree of independent judgment.

The Manager and their team develop and implement short and intermediate term plans and ensure alignment with Development and External Relations strategy. The manager is responsible for maximizing operational efficiencies and cultivating stakeholder satisfaction. Responsibilities include creating and managing short/medium and long-term schedules and project plans which include all activities for the year and plans as far out as 3 to 5 years at a high-level.

The Manager reports to the Director, Advancement Services and manages the Advisor, Special Projects, three Program Coordinators and one Program Support Specialist.

Duties

  • Manages strategic, operational and high-profile Development projects, including campaign planning and operations, across the donor continuum that enable the success of the Development portfolio and its fundraising programs.

  • Anticipates, designs and provides Development Leaders and their units with reports and analysis foundational for fundraising success, campaign planning, fundraising priority planning, goal setting, progress reporting, donor relations and program management.

  • Leads the execution, management, and coordination of plans across the development portfolio, monitoring progress and integration across units and teams. Identifies priorities, establishes and measures key performance indicators (KPIs) and addresses emergent Development portfolio needs.

  • Creates and implements the required administrative systems, policies and processes to build integration and manage information across Development. This includes the implementation of an organizational structure/assignment of client units that aligns well with the Development unit structure.

  • Ensures the Program Coordinators and Support efficiently and accurately complete program activities for their assigned units, including (but not limited to) foundational reporting, gift documentation, program management and handling day-to-day operations, problems and situations.

  • Works directly with the Directors to ensure their program requirements are being met by the assigned team member.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in business, public administration or a related area is required

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in project management or other related roles

  • Significant experience in fundraising and a deep understanding of the fundraising continuum.

  • Experience working in a fundraising environment, supporting complex and varied areas of development

  • Experienced people leader with employee development and performance management skills

  • Experience with identifying key issues, including implications and risks

  • Exceptional relationship building skills

  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, problem solving and team building skills

  • Strong composition and editing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals in varying roles and levels

  • Proven commitment to the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically when analyzing results (metrics) and understands their impact on strategic objectives

  • Strong computer aptitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in comprehensive fundraising campaigns is an asset.

  • Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta's policies, procedures and operational requirements would be an asset
