Salary: $37,500 - $42,000


The Opportunity

Are you an accomplished relationship-builder with exceptional communication skills, an entrepreneurial mindset and outstanding organizational skills? Do you have five or more years of relevant experience in fundraising, donor relations and event management? Then you should consider joining Sagesse as our Fundraising Specialist.

This role works with our communications and innovation teams to raise funds in support of our work to end domestic abuse in Alberta. In this role, you will lead fundraising activities for the organization, including the development and maintenance of ongoing relationships with donors and corporate sponsors, managing fundraising events, and coordinating event volunteers. Additionally, this role will help identify and pursue opportunities for Sagesse’s fee-for-service offerings.

Sagesse empowers people of all backgrounds to disrupt structures of abuse through curating environments to heal and lead safe, healthy lives. With innovation as our programming cornerstone, Sagesse works for anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, including people who are at risk of being abused, informally support others, or are involved in sex work.

We work in more than 50 communities across Alberta – either directly providing service or partnering with agencies to deliver programs on our behalf. We are also the backbone agency for the Calgary Domestic Violence Collective and Alberta’s provincial IMPACT initiative.

Our social enterprise arm, ByDesign, is a hub of knowledge, experience, and innovation with an aim to disrupt norms, dispel disbelief, and deepen societal impact.

Competencies & Skills

  • Engages in curiosity and vulnerability (Brené Brown).

  • Five or more years of experience in donor and sponsor relations.

  • Excellent storyteller with the ability to effectively communicate with key stakeholders and build productive, positive relationships.

  • Confident public speaking and presentation skills, and ease with cold calling.

  • Expertise in generating leads and translating them into donors, sponsors and customers through strong follow-up and follow-through skills.

  • Ability to motivate, inspire and offer creative solutions to challenging situations.

  • Attention to detail and strong project management skills.

Roles & Responsibilities

Relationship Building

  • Be the public face of Sagesse for new or potential donors and sponsors.

  • Curate mutually beneficial and lasting relationships in line with the organization’s values, communication strategy and strategic outcomes.

  • Attend community events including fairs, parades and fundraisers on behalf of Sagesse.


Fundraising and Fee-For-Service

  • Lead the development and execution of the organization’s fundraising program.

  • With the support of volunteers, plan and execute the organization’s fundraising events, including our flagship fundraiser, Eat Play Love.

  • Identify, pitch and acquire large donors and sponsors for the organization.

  • Support the communications team in rolling out fundraising messages on social media, through newsletters and other means.

  • Working with the communications team, support donor recognition through direct communication and marketing.

  • Support the promotion of Sagesse’s fee-for-service offerings, including REAL Talk and domestic abuse screening, through pitch packages, meetings and other relationship building efforts.
