Donor Relations & Development Officer (1.0 FTE) - Edmonton Base

The Donor Relations and Development Officer will support the Foundation’s efforts to raise critical funds for mission operations. This individual is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts and sponsorships to the foundation. This will include identification of new prospects as well as growing current donor relationships. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for the development and engagement of municipal governments in Central Alberta. This will include establishing and maintaining professional and productive relationships with key volunteers, donors and government officials. It is expected that this role meets or exceeds aggressive performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
Meet or exceed activity targets (discovery calls, face to face meetings, submitted proposals, successful solicitations) as mutually agreed upon with Manager;
Meet or exceed financial objectives and achieve long-term fund-raising goals of the major gift portfolio which includes a mix of individual and corporate donors, as well as municipal relations;
Establish and steward relationships with municipal governments (RMA-Rural Municipalities of Alberta, AUMA – Alberta Urban Municipalities Association) and associated officials to grow financial support for STARS, and have strong knowledge of the Edmonton community;
Desire and ability to build pipeline through discovery activity;
Identify the highest-potential prospects and develop and implement cultivation strategies to turn prospects into STARS supporters;
Demonstrate the ability to secure six-figure gifts;
Prepare and deliver high-quality proposals, presentations and other communication materials to prospective donors, sponsors and municipalities;
Using relationship fundraising strategies, develop and implement comprehensive plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts for the assigned donor portfolio, including upgrading existing donors;
Support of other fundraising activities such as internal and external events, as agreed upon with Manager;
Strong decision making, problem solving and research skills;
Maintain accurate, professional, and current Raiser’s Edge records, actions, and reports;
Maintain a high degree of motivation and superior work ethic consistent with the employment philosophy of the Foundation;
Actively participate as a member an integrated development team remaining informed of donor relations and development best practices.
Education and Experience
3-5 years in a sales or fundraising and development role;
Post-secondary degree an asset in a related field, a combination of education and experience will be considered;
Demonstrated track record in soliciting major gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals;
Exceeded annual revenue targets YOY;
Drive, enthusiasm, and energy;
Adherence to a high ethical standards;
Strong decision making, problem solving and research skills;
An aptitude for building strong, long-lasting relationships;
Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team;
Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy;
Intimate knowledge of the Edmonton and Central Alberta region;
Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time and work some evenings and weekends as required;
Experience with prospect management database software, particularly Raiser’s Edge, is considered an asset.
