Donor Relations & Development Officer (1.0 FTE) - Edmonton Base

Is this challenge for you?

We are searching for a Donor Relations and Development Officer to join the Foundation team, responsible for raising critical funds to support STARS life-saving mission. This individual will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts and sponsorships to the Foundation. This will include identification of new prospects as well as growing current donor relationships. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for the development and engagement of municipal governments in Central Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify the highest-potential prospects and develop cultivation strategies to turn prospects into STARS supporters

  • Use relationship fundraising strategies to develop and implement comprehensive plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts for the assigned donor prospects

  • Determine interests of donors and identify opportunities to align giving with interests

  • Establish and steward relationships with municipal governments and associated officials to grow financial support for STARS

  • Meet or exceed activity targets (discovery calls, face to face meetings, submitted proposals, successful solicitations) as mutually agreed upon with Manager

  • Meet or exceed financial objectives and achieve long-term fundraising goals of the major gift portfolio which includes a mix of individual and corporate donors, as well as municipal relations

  • Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations and other communication materials to prospective donors, sponsors and municipalities

  • Support other fundraising activities such as internal and external events

  • Maintain accurate donor information in Raiser’s Edge in a timely manner

  • Meet or exceed targets related to identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities

  • Desire and ability to build a pipeline through discovery activity

  • Actively participate as a member of an integrated development team, remaining informed of donor relations and development best practices.    

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in a sales or fundraising and development role preferred, though all experience levels will be considered

  • Post-secondary degree in business or marketing an asset

  • Demonstrated track record in soliciting major gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals, including securing six-figure gifts preferred

  • History of consistently exceeding annual revenue targets

  • Strong decision making, problem solving and research skills

  • An aptitude for building strong, long-lasting relationships

  • Ability to take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including tact, and diplomacy

  • Solid knowledge of the Edmonton and Central Alberta region an asset

  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings/weekends, and travel up to 20% of the time, as required

  • Experience with prospect management database software, particularly Raiser’s Edge, is considered an asset

  • Drive, enthusiastic, energetic and adherence to a high ethical standards
