The Francis Winspear Centre for Music is seeking a dynamic individual to become our next Director of Philanthropy. We are looking for a leader that is excited to be part of our music-centered, community-driven organization for this permanent full-time position.

The Francis Winspear Centre for Music (FWCM) fulfills the human need to make and share music. The Winspear Centre is a nexus for all types of music, and welcomes traditional and experimental forms of sonic art. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming space for our community to create, exhibit, and experience music.

The Winspear Centre is home to the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) and the Tommy Banks Centre for Musical Creativity, and is the venue of choice for local community groups and touring artists. Over the last 70 years, the ESO has taken its place as one of Canada’s foremost orchestras, and has played a vital role in the cultural life and wellbeing of our city. The Tommy Banks Centre hosts programs that provide all Edmontonians the opportunity to immerse themselves in music – as spectators, apprentices, and creators.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Philanthropy oversees a team of talented professionals, all activities related to Stewardship and Fundraising, and coordinating Annual Giving and the Winspear Project Capital Campaigns.

This is a full-time leadership position that involves developing and building relationships with stakeholders and requires a flexible work schedule to work evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Philanthropy team and promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization

  • Supervise and represent stewardship and revenue-generating personnel and activities

  • Manage expense and revenue budgets for stewardship and fundraising activities

  • Provide high-level strategy, project management, and execute fundraising activities including Annual and Capital Campaign and other development activities such as event-based and peer-to-peer fundraising

  • Optimize donation experience and reduce barriers to giving

  • Strategize and implement proven techniques for donor retention and acquisition

  • Participate in the stewardship of leadership donors to both Annual and Capital Campaigns

  • Co-lead the Winspear Project Capital Campaign with Board Member, chair of Capital Campaign

Qualifications:

  • An University Degree or Equivalent, Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification, or a combination of education and experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role, in high-level funds development

  • Supervisory experience to inspire and develop a team

  • Experience working and thriving in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in written or verbal communication

  • Effective organizational and time management skills
