Salary: $48,060 - $54,120


The Today Centre provides a single point of entry to comprehensive services for those impacted by family violence in Edmonton and area. The Today Centre uses an integrated service delivery model, which requires partnerships with service providers to ensure a collaborative, coordinated community response for those impacted by family violence.

We are currently looking for an experienced individual to fill a full-time Communications Specialist position to start immediately.

With the support of the Community Engagement Specialist, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Develop, distribute and maintain all internal and external print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, signage, presentations, event materials

• Manage online presence and content, including keeping the website current and up to date and managing social media

• Manage video productions where relevant

• Develop and implement marketing and communications and media strategies that successfully deliver information and key messages to the public and agency stakeholders

• Assist in engaging donors, sponsors and community partners of The Today Centre through social media, special events and media relations

• Develop and maintain a strong and productive relationship with new and existing print and electronic media

• Manage the use of external resources as they pertain to communications (e.g. advertising agency, printers, etc.)

• Evaluate outcomes of various communication strategies

• Create organizational social media user guidelines

• Develop sustainable communications plan.

• Write and distribute news releases and coordinate news conferences

• Represent the agency on relevant committees, community and public forums and agency special events

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

• Minimum post-secondary degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Relations, Marketing, Business or related field. Other qualifications combining related education and progressively responsible work experience will be considered.

• Minimum two years experience in communications field;

• Experience in developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies;

• Demonstrated experience in creating, writing, editing and proofing communication materials;

• Demonstrated proficiency in use of social media platforms, email, internet, Microsoft Office, Mail Chimp, Square Space, desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Quark), Photoshop, Illustrator or similar program;

• Graphic design experience would be considered an asset;

• Energetic, flexible, solution-oriented, and proactive;

• Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills;

• Exceptional time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously;

• Strong ability to effectively interface with diverse audiences with different communications needs including staff, partners, board members, donors, community partners and service users;

• Self-starter; able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;

• An understanding of family violence is an asset.;

• Must have a current Class 5 Alberta Government Operators Licence and reliable vehicle;

• Police Security Clearance check and Children Services Intervention Record check.

This is a full-time contract position based on 37.5 hours per week until March 31, 2023 with the possibility of extension. The salary range for this position is $48,060 to $54,120 annually.
