Description
Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Fund Development, the Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts is responsible for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of high value donors.
The SDO works collaboratively with the Fund Development team and other leaders to build and advance strong personal and professional relationships that result in philanthropic contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations; serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for fundraising efforts; manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, work independently and creatively to match donor interests with CASA priorities, develop funding proposals, and negotiate and structure gifts to the organization; prepare effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for current and prospective donors, sometimes involving senior leadership team, Board members and volunteers; and ensure the timely capture and recording of data relating to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activity that is related to the assigned portfolio pool.
Responsibilities and Activities
• Maintains a major donor/prospect portfolio.
• Systematically follows best practice moves management.
• Personally visits/meets with a measurable number of donors and prospects annually.
• Conducts donor prospect research using multiple tools.
• Tracks, documents and communicates fundraising activity in CRM database (DonorPerfect) and shares information with colleagues as appropriate.
• Identifies and engages volunteers as advisors to fundraising strategies as appropriate.
• Assists in strategy development and execution for major and planned gift fundraising. Things like helping establish and evaluate annual fundraising targets and operational plans for major and planned gift activity and quarterly updates.
• Works in partnership with Fund Development team members on fundraising programs. Things like engagement strategies for prospective donors, collaborating regularly on prospect identification, appropriate gift processing procedures and acknowledgements.
• Manages stewardship of major donors in your assigned pool. Collaborates with Development Officer, Stewardship when needed.
• Leads the engagement between major donors and CASA leaders. Things like providing appropriate briefing materials to leaders to execute strategies with donors, coaching and leadership as necessary to engage leadership in strategic fundraising activities.
• Collaborates on writing projects such as cases for support, proposals and stewardship reports, as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Five or more years’ experience in major or planned gift fundraising with a track record of closing gifts of $10,000 and greater. Related experience in sales, financial services and business development will be considered.
• Ability to coach and brief organizational leaders for fundraising activities including operational planning, objective setting and establishment of fundraising priorities.
• Knowledge of a variety of fundraising tools and strategies, and demonstrated experience with activities throughout the giving cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
• Ability to understand the needs and interests of major and planned gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and CASA.
• Interest in all aspects of children and youth mental health and a dedication to promoting fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with CASA leaders, volunteers, and community representatives.
• Demonstrated project management skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and juggle competing priorities in a high-paced environment.
• Regular travel to visit donors and prospective donors may be required.
• CFRE designation is an asset.
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
