Scholarships and Awards

The AFP Edmonton & Area Chapter offers scholarships, awards and bursaries for members to increase their professionalism, knowledge, and skills by attending conferences, courses, and workshops relevant to fundraisers offered locally, nationally, and internationally.

Scholarship and bursary opportunities include:

1.  CFRE Award 

  • Value: Two awards valued at $250 each
  • Distribution: Upon confirmation of course or exam registration.
  • Criteria: Awarded to AFP members who have completed or are working towards completion of their CFRE designation.

2.  Fundamentals of Fundraising Award

  • Value: Two Awards valued at $250 each
  • Distribution: Upon confirmation of course registration
  • Criteria: Awarded to AFP members who have attended or plan to attend a Fundamentals of Fundraising course offered by any AFP Chapter in 2019. There is no limit on experience or number of times that a member may apply for the award.

 3. AFP Edmonton and Area Chapter Award – AFP International Conference on Fundraising

  • Value: $500
  • Distribution: Upon award distribution, you will be required to provide proof of payment for registration.
  • Criteria: All AFP Edmonton and Area members who have registered in the AFP International Conference on Fundraising. There is no limit on experience or past conferences attended. Award winners will not be eligible to apply for a period of two years following the receipt of the award.

4. Chamberlain Scholarship Award – AFP International Conference on Fundraising

  • Value: Full conference Registration for $10 plus $500 for travel expenses.
  • Criteria: Candidate is employed as a fundraising professional or, if candidate is an executive director, a substantial amount of time must be devoted to fundraising. Candidate has never attended an AFP or NSFRE International Conference on Fundraising as a registered participant (unless as a member of the Conference Host Committee). Candidate must agree to complete an online evaluation form about his or her experience at International Conference. Only one individual from any local organization or institution may be selected.

5. AFP Diverse Communities Scholarship

  • Value: $1,500 scholarships ($799 conference registration fee + some travel expenses) for each of the currently identified AFP diverse communities.
  • Criteria: The AFP Foundation of Philanthropy is pleased to once again offer the Diverse Communities Scholarship program for members of diverse communities to attend the AFP International Fundraising Conference in San Antonio, TX, March 31 - April 2, 2019. AFP is pleased to offer $1,500 scholarships ($799 conference registration fee + some travel expenses) for each of the currently identified AFP diverse communities, which are: African-American/Black, Asian, People with Disabilities, Faith-based, LGBTQ, Hispanic, Jewish, and/or Rural. Other underrepresented communities will also be considered.
  • This scholarship opportunity is open to members and non-members.

6. AFP President's Membership Bursary

  • Value: Two awards valued at $90 each to cover the cost of 3 AFP Edmonton Education Sessions.
  • Distribution: Successful recipients notified by February 7, 2019. 
  • Criteria: Awarded to AFP members who demonstrate financial need and strong interest in professional development. 3 Pack Education Bundle must be used within 1 year of receiving this award.
